List the physiological effects of gibberellin.

2001[4]
1998[2]
1997[4]
Physiological effects of gibberellins:
1.
Gibberellin helps to overcome dwarfism by causing stem elongation.
2.
Bolting – Application of gibberellin in plants induces fast development of leaves and internodes. This is called Bolting.
3.
Parthenocarpy – Gibberellin helps in the development of seedless fruit in tomato, pear, etc.
4.
It helps in breaking the dormancy in sweet potato.
5.
Gibberellin promotes seed germination in lettuce, etc.
6.
Sex expression – It promotes the formation of male flowers.
7.
It is used to increase the fruit size.
8.
It promotes flowering in long day plants under unfavourable short day conditions.
These functions should be discussed in class in detail.

Function of auxin should not be mixed with gibberellin.

Application and agricultural use of plant hormone should be stressed while studying the function..

Question (2002 [4], 1998 [3], 1996 [3] Long)
Briefly describe the stages in the clotting of blood.

Solution:

When blood is shed, the injured tissues release thromboplastin.
It acts on prothrombin in the presence of calcium salts.
Prothrombin is converted  into active thrombin.
Thrombin converts fibrinogen into insoluble fibrin threads.
Fibrin threads form a network over the wound in which the red blood corpuscles get entangled to form a blood clot.
Sequence in the steps of blood clothing should be learned in sequence.
