(ii)   What has Lady Macbeth learnt from the letter?
(iii)   What news does the messenger bring?
(iv)   Explain: And chastise with the valour of my tongue

 Solutions Tips and Guidelines
Ans. (i)

Lady Macbeth is extremely eager to see her husband being crowned king. In order, to attain the royal position he would, however, have to commit the heinous act of murder. According to his wife, Macbeth is ambitious but he does not possess the unscrupulous disposition that an ambitious person should have to achieve what he wishes to attain. Macbeth is too full of human emotion and sentiment and such gentleness in his nature will prevent him from adopting the shortest course which will not have to do with any honourable means but to achieve something so huge, he will have to undertake wrong means.

Ans. (ii) The letter written by Macbeth gives an astounding account into the supernatural insight that the witches have far beyond the knowledge of an ordinary man. Macbeth wished to ask them further questions but stood spellbound by the way they had addressed him previously. Meanwhile, they vanished and further revealed that he shall become king. Macbeth reveals these strange happenings in the letter which trigger his wife to plot against King Duncan.
Ans. (iii) The messenger tells Lady Macbeth that the king would arrive at the castle that night with Macbeth in tow.
Ans. (iv) Lady Macbeth wishes to speak high spirited words to Macbeth so as to boost him up and also to remove any doubts that exist in his mind which will hinder the process of gaining the royal crown-the circlet of gold.
