Merits of the present system of education
Tagore had once said that the aim of true education is the harmonious development of the body, the mind and the soul all together. An education can be called the real education if it brings about the development of all the facets of a person. There is a near total agreement on the fact that this system of education has helped in the development of the minds of our people. The best example of this is that previously, Indians used to go abroad for higher studies, especially for law, engineering and doctorate and now people from abroad are joining Indian universities engineering, medical and management courses. This is a perfect proof of the standards that we are maintaining, which are matching with the global ones.
The present system of education is more versatile and knowledge giving as it provides the student with a chance of improving in all the areas which makes him eligible for entering into various courses as he or she likes and then continue as a specialist in a special branch so that when he passes out he is a master of his subject. The present system of education expands our knowledge on various subjects. It excites us sufficiently to research and think critically. It broadens our outlook by giving us general and specialized knowledge. Also, our present system of education gives us information about our culture and ethics. It makes us learn the basic rules of decency and politeness. In this context, it cannot be denied that educated persons are better-behaved and cultured than their illiterate counterparts.
Modern system of education also teaches a student the value of cooperation, harmony and friendliness. It also makes a person confident of facing the future. It makes the person aware of his rights and duties towards the nation. Thanks to the modern system of education that today an Indian youth is able to rapidly assimilate the latest technology that is available around the world and makes the best use of it. We have grown leaps and bounds over the last twenty odd years, so much so that in the field of information and technology we are having a global status now and our students are paid very highly when they apply for jobs abroad. Previously the vice-versa was true. Now we do not have to call experts from outside as we have got the specialists in any field that we talk of. We have also moved forward and elevated ourselves in the department of returns as, unless it is too urgent and special, one doesn't need to go abroad for more moolah just with an increment of some dollars as the Indian companies have come at par with the International standards. The government has also revised its salaries almost in all the sectors. What is it due to? It is only due to the education that we are getting today because without that, not to talk of abroad, we won't be considered for a job even in our own nation.
